A Request From Dennis

Just as I pressed "publish" on the last post, Dennis called with a very specific way for you to help.

Last night, as Jerry's anxiety and panic was at its height, Dennis found himself flipping madly through the Bible for verses that he could recite to Jerry that would offer him calm and hope in that moment.

Could you comment back to this post with a verse that has given you strength and hope as you have faced an intense trial?  The idea here being that tonight, as Dennis needs a verse, he could shift the lap top over and recite straight off of these comment boards.  If you could list your first name and city too, knowing where these verses have come from would also be of encouragement too.

Thank you for commenting.  Let's fill this comment board with words of hope and strength.

There are some good verses in Proverbs 3... perhaps as you read it you can pull out the verses that specifically touch you...

Dennis,
This is one of my favorites!

Psalm 27
Of David.
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evil men advance against me
to devour my flesh, [a]
when my enemies and my foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.

3 Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then will I be confident.

4 One thing I ask of the LORD,
this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple.

5 For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
and set me high upon a rock.

6 Then my head will be exalted
above the enemies who surround me;
at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make music to the LORD.

7 Hear my voice when I call, O LORD;
be merciful to me and answer me.

8 My heart says of you, "Seek his [b] face!"
Your face, LORD, I will seek.

9 Do not hide your face from me,
do not turn your servant away in anger;
you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
O God my Savior.

10 Though my father and mother forsake me,
the LORD will receive me.

11 Teach me your way, O LORD;
lead me in a straight path
because of my oppressors.

12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
for false witnesses rise up against me,
breathing out violence.

13 I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living.

14 Wait for the LORD;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the LORD.

Dennis,
This psalm was a favorite of Pastor Lynn Haver (from AUMC and RCP)...

Psalm 34
Of David.
1 I will extol the LORD at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
2 My soul will boast in the LORD;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
3 Glorify the LORD with me;
let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.
8 Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
9 Fear the LORD, you his saints,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
11 Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking lies.
14 Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their cry;
16 the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
19 A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all;
20 he protects all his bones,
not one of them will be broken.
21 Evil will slay the wicked;
the foes of the righteous will be condemned.
22 The LORD redeems his servants;
no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.

and my personal favorite...
Ecclesiates 4:9-12

9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work:

10 If one falls down,
his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up!

11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?

12 Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God
Philippians 4:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Deuteronomy 31:6

For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 30:17

You all have been & will continue to be in my prayers. Never forget how much you are loved and cared for, even by perfect strangers.

Well... all others are putting the verses in the comment... and I reread the blog and see thats what was requested... sooooo... here is proverbs 3

Trusting in the Lord
1 My child,[a] never forget the things I have taught you.
Store my commands in your heart.
2 If you do this, you will live many years,
and your life will be satisfying.
3 Never let loyalty and kindness leave you!
Tie them around your neck as a reminder.
Write them deep within your heart.
4 Then you will find favor with both God and people,
and you will earn a good reputation.

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.

7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
8 Then you will have healing for your body
and strength for your bones.

9 Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the best part of everything you produce.
10 Then he will fill your barns with grain,
and your vats will overflow with good wine.

11 My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline,
and don’t be upset when he corrects you.
12 For the Lord corrects those he loves,
just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.[b]

13 Joyful is the person who finds wisdom,
the one who gains understanding.
14 For wisdom is more profitable than silver,
and her wages are better than gold.
15 Wisdom is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 She offers you long life in her right hand,
and riches and honor in her left.
17 She will guide you down delightful paths;
all her ways are satisfying.
18 Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
happy are those who hold her tightly.

19 By wisdom the Lord founded the earth;
by understanding he created the heavens.
20 By his knowledge the deep fountains of the earth burst forth,
and the dew settles beneath the night sky.

21 My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment.
Hang on to them,
22 for they will refresh your soul.
They are like jewels on a necklace.
23 They keep you safe on your way,
and your feet will not stumble.
24 You can go to bed without fear;
you will lie down and sleep soundly.
25 You need not be afraid of sudden disaster
or the destruction that comes upon the wicked,
26 for the Lord is your security.
He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.

27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it
when it’s in your power to help them.
28 If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say,
“Come back tomorrow, and then I’ll help you.”

Anxiety Antidote:

As irrational as it is, I am afraid of flying in airplanes. More specifically, I am terrified of falling out of the sky. Once on a turbulent flight I was comin' out of my skin and pulled out my Bible, flipped to the back and looked up "worry." Here's what I found:

Matthew 6:27
"Who can add even one hour to his life by worrying?"

And
Matthew 6:34
"So don't worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I think the modern equivalent of this one is "One day at a time."

Lamentations 3:20-23:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,

great is your faithfulness.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.

Romans 8:38-39
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 1: 16-19
I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers.
I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power.

Footprints Poem
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way, however I noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed you the most you would leave me."
The Lord replied, "my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
Peace, rest, sleep, sweet dreams.....

Hi Dennis, this isn't a bible verse, but it is a short prayer I started saying years ago when I was scared, or hurting, or just needed reassurance. In times of need, I say with all my heart "God is in me, and with me, and all around me," and when I say these words, I really feel God's presence and this short prayer has gotten me through many difficult times. Other words of comfort for me have come from a song by Addison Roads, called "Hope Now," if you can find the song to play for Jerry I think he would love it, but the chorus is the best part and it says "Everything rides on hope now, Everything rides on faith somehow, When the world has broken me down, Your love sets me free"
God's love is amazing, and the greatest power we can ever know. My husband, family, and friends and I are all praying for your family and especially for Jerry. Nothing is too great for God!

Much Love,
Rebecca Rocha (your long time neighbor Becky Busa)

Isaiah 40:27-31

27 Jacob, why do you say,
and Israel, why do you assert:
"My way is hidden from the LORD,
and my claim is ignored by my God"?
28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
Yahweh is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the whole earth.
He never grows faint or weary;
there is no limit to His understanding.
29 He gives strength to the weary,
and strengthens the powerless.
30 Youths may faint and grow weary,
young men stumble and fall,
31 but those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength;
they will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.

Hey Dennis (& Jerry) -
So often when I recite verses to folks I wonder if they sound trite. But when I've been in tough spots, I too, have asked for others to share & I almost felt guilty about it like I should know or something. I'm glad you asked. It's the least we, as the body of Christ, can do!

For me -
James 1:
2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Habakkuk 3
7 Though the fig tree should not blossom
And there be no fruit on the vines,
Though the yield of the olive should fail
And the fields produce no food,
Though the flock should be cut off from the fold
And there be no cattle in the stalls,

18 Yet I will exult in the Lord ,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.

19 The Lord God is my strength,
And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet,
And makes me walk on my high places.

Romans 8:
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.

Our Victory in Christ
26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;

27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;

30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Psalm 30 always seems to ring true in the end of tough times and I pray it will be for you all . . .
1 I will extol You, O Lord , for You have lifted me up,
And have not let my enemies rejoice over me.

2 O Lord my God,
I cried to You for help, and You healed me.

3 O Lord , You have brought up my soul from Sheol;
You have kept me alive, that I would not go down to the pit.

4 Sing praise to the Lord , you His godly ones,
And give thanks to His holy name.

5 For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may last for the night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning.

6 Now as for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I will never be moved.”

7 O Lord , by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong;
You hid Your face, I was dismayed.

8 To You, O Lord , I called,
And to the Lord I made supplication:

9 “What profit is there in my blood, if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your faithfulness?

10 “Hear, O Lord , and be gracious to me;
O Lord , be my helper.”

11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,

12 That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

There's many more - but those are the biggies for me!

Psalm 57
1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, until the destroying storms pass by.

2 I cry to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.

3 He will send from heaven and save me, he will put to shame those who trample on me. God will send forth his steadfast love and his faithfulness.

I think of you all often and I continue to pray for you. God bless.

Praying for peace, patience and perserverance this evening.

Psalm 118:1-14
1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
2 Let Israel say:
his love endures forever.
3 Let the house of Aaron say:
his love endures forever.
4 Let those who fear the Lord say:
his love endures forever.
5 In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and he answered by setting me free.
6 The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
7 The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies.
8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.
9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.
10 All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I cut them off.
11 They surrounded me on every side, but in the name of the Lord I cut them off.
12 They swarmed around me like bees, but they died out as quickly as burning thorns;
in the name of the Lord I cut them off.
13 I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me.
14 The Lord is my strength and song; he has become my salvation.

The deep truth is that our human suffering need not be an obstacle to the joy and peace we so desire, but can become, instead, the means to it. The great secret of the spiritual life, the life of the Beloved Sons and Daughters of God, is that everything we live, be it gladness or sadness, joy or pain, health or illness, can all be part of the journey toward the full realization of our humanity. It is not hard to say to one another: "All that is good and beautiful leads us to the glory of the children of God." But it is very hard to say: "But didn't you know that we all have to suffer and thus enter into our glory?" Nonetheless, real care means the willingness to help each other in making our brokenness into the gateway to joy.

Good Morning Jerry and bleary eyed Katie and Den,
The sun is shining this morning as we know God listened to all of our prayers and hopefully, Jerry, you could here them last night when these were read to you.
I was so excited when I came in and saw you sitting up in bed and then to see your first trip around the hospital was a true miracle. (Boy did you truely amaze Ed when we snuck up on him.)
Just know we love all of you and are thinking of you today and every day.

Good Morning Jerry, Katie, Dennis, and Family~
(well it WAS morning when I first began to pray and write to you...haha)

I was not able to read your updates from Thurs. and Fri. until this morning...What an AMAZING family is found in the kingdom of God!!! To see believers rallying from all parts of the world is truly a blessing and gift. A tiny glimpse into the HUGE realm of God's resources through His people.

There are many scriptures that come to mind in times of trouble, fear, despair, feelings of hopelessness...I hope these will bring renewed strength and hope in HIS hand upon you all.

The first comes from 2 Kings 6 :14-17 Where the king of Aram had sent his army to destroy Elisha...that in itself causes me to smile that an ENTIRE army had to be sent to destroy ONE man of God! Here is the scripture...

14 And he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city.
15 Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?"
16 So he answered, do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
17 Then Elisha prayed and said, "O Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." And the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

My prayer for you all is in the darkest of nights (or days) the Lord will open your eyes to see HIM and His mighty army all around you. Fighting against the enemy and filling you with much needed HOPE! When our sight is limited we need to pray to see through the eyes of Christ! Open the eyes of their hearts Lord.

The other one that sustains me is found in Daniel Ch.9 in his prayer of intersession and then God's answer. In this prayer Daniel is completely humble before God confessing his sins, the sins of his family and those around him. His is completely aware of is fallibility, yet, in all confidence of who God IS, beseeches the Lord!

That always encourages me; we all need to remember that WHO God is has nothing at all to do with WHO WE ARE, other than the fact that WE are ONE OF HIS! Bringing our attention to God and acknowledging HIS greatness is the key!

Daniel 9:3-23

3 So, I give my attention to the Lord God to seek him by prayer and supplications…

4 And I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed and said, “Alas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love him and keep His commandments.

5-15 Daniel humbly confesses his sins to God
(this always encouraged me that if someone like Daniel (a huge saint in my eyes) understood and saw HIS need to confess before God in such depth and yet with such confidence in God’s hearing and forgiving of him… How much more do I have the same needs, and yet can approach God with the same confidence!)

16-18 “O Lord in accordance with all your righteousness acts let now Thine anger and Thy wrath turn away from Thy city…because of our sins and the sins of our fathers, we have become a reproach to those around us, listen to my prayer, the prayer of thy servant…let thy face shine on thy desolate sanctuary…not by any merit of our own, but on thy great compassion alone.”

19 “O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and take action! For Thine own sake, O my God do not delay, because Thy city and Thy people are called by Thy name.”

Then God’s answer comes…verses 20-23
20 Now while I was speaking and praying and confessing, and presenting my supplications before the Lord…
21 While I was still speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, came to me in my extreme weariness…
22 And gave me instruction and talked with me…”I have come to give you insight and understanding”
23 At the beginning of your supplications the command was issued, and I have come to tell you, you are highly esteemed, so give heed to the message and gain understanding of the vision.

This is a great encouragement that God DOES hear, and WILL ACT upon His promises, we will have times of weariness, and God will be ever present by our side!

Daniel repeatedly emphasizes the sovereignty of God and power of God over human affairs, “The Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, and bestows it on whomever He wishes” (Dan. 4:25) The God who directs the forces of history has not deserted His people. They must continue to trust in Him, because His promises of preservation and ultimate restoration are as sure as the coming of the Messiah.

“Daniel answered and said, ‘Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to Him. And it is He who changes the times and the epochs; He gives wisdom to wise men, and knowledge to men of understanding. It is HE who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him’” (Dan. 2:20-22)

Our continued prayer for all of you is that when the dark times come God will shine in your hearts bringing you the necessary hope to boldly stand up against anything the enemy uses to try and knock you down! That you will be able to hold on to the promises of God and call upon Him to reveal “profound and hidden things” to the doctors when they run out of wisdom and that HIS knowledge will prevail!

I know that God is doing great great things in that hospital and in the hearts of the staff there because of the MacCallister family!!!

Our God is an AWESOME God! Looking forward to the MANY victory celebrations Jerry will have with all the RCP families this summer!!!!

Hi Dennis and Katie. Here are a few passages that have been a comfort in stressful times for our family as well signposts as to the direction the Lord has directed me (and family) to take. I hope one or more is the same source of strength as they have been to me.

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.

1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk through
the valley of the shadow of death, [a] I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD orever.

The God of All Comfort
(2 Cor. 1: 3 - 11)

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.
8 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. 9 Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, 11 as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our[a] behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.

Isaiah 43: 1 - 5
Israel's Only Savior

1 But now, this is what the LORD says—
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

3 For I am the LORD, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
Cush [a] and Seba in your stead.

4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you,
I will give men in exchange for you,
and people in exchange for your life.

5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you;
I will bring your children from the east
and gather you from the west.

Verses 15 - 19

15 I am the LORD, your Holy One,
Israel's Creator, your King."

16 This is what the LORD says—
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,

17 who drew out the chariots and horses,
the army and reinforcements together,
and they lay there, never to rise again,
extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:

18 "Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.

19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.

Second Corinthians 4
Treasures in Jars of Clay

1 Therefore, since through God's mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. 2 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness,"[a]made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. 12 So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

13 It is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken."[b]With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, 14because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence. 15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Psalm 131
A song of ascents. Of David.

1 My heart is not proud, O LORD,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
2 But I have stilled and quieted my soul;
like a weaned child with its mother,
like a weaned child is my soul within me.

3 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD
both now and forevermore.

Psalm 73

21 When my heart was grieved
and my spirit embittered,

22 I was senseless and ignorant;
I was a brute beast before you.

23 Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.

24 You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory.

25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.

27 Those who are far from you will perish;
you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.

28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.
I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds.

"But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly;The Lord will hear when I call to Him.
Be angry and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness,
And put your trust in the Lord....
There are many who say, who will show us any good?
Lord,Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.
You have put gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
I will both lie down in peace,and sleep;
For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety".

1 Peter 4: 12-13

Psalm 91: 2-5
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. We have been so blessed today, reading the many encouraging verses, and the hundreds of prayers that are going up for Jerry all over the world. Bill asked me to find the scripture where Aaron and Hur are holding up Moses' arms as the battle against the Amelekites is raging in the valley below. It's found in Exodus 17:8-17. Moses tells Joshua, "Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands." So Joshua fought the Amelekites...

Bill wanted Dennis to know that as all of our prayers go up around you and Katie and especially Jerry, we are standing around you, kind of like Aaron and Hur lifting up Moses' arms as the battle rages~ so as you grow weary, exhausted, bleary eyed and discouraged, we throw our support of prayer over this battle. ...for the battle is not yours but God's. (2 Ch 20:15)

I Cor 2:10:13 And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.

And from Angie for Jerry:

Psalm 28:7
The Lord is my strength, my shield from every danger. I trust in him with all my heart. (Angie wants to send her "encouraging verses" cards over to Jerry. She's reading them, and putting them in order for him.

It is good to turn to the bible for comfort in this time, for the bible is God's word, we pray that God's word may fill your heart with warmth and Love, we are here praying for you.

Passage Matthew 11:28-30:

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

and let us not forget the poem that reminds us that God is there with you right now and will carry you all through this.

Footprints

One night I had a dream--
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord
and across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints,
one belonged to me and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in my life.
This really bothered me and I questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you would walk with me all the way,
but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life
there is only one set of footprints.
"I don't understand why in times when I needed you most,
you should leave me."
The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child,
I love you and I would never, never leave you
during your times of trial and suffering.
"When you saw only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

Hi Dennis,

Dan Whitney here (girl's JV Softball coach at Scotts Valley). A little over 8 years ago I was right where your son Jerry is. I had broken my C3/C4 in a mountain bike accident and was completely paralyzed (classified as incomplete). I was told I would never walk again and left the hospital completely immobile. As you have witnessed, God had different plans for me. I rest in the promise of our Savior that He has great plans for Jerry.

Right now you're being inundated with new terminology and probably feel like you're caught up in a whirlwind. It WILL begin to slow down.

The verse I held onto while in the hospital was Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I am God". It continues to sustain me today.

We continue to fervently lift Jerry, you, and your family up in prayer.

God Speed!

Dan
