It Begins

For those just getting caught up on the story, the purpose of this blog is to journal our prayers and hopes for Jerry MacCallister. Following a dirtbiking accident that occurred on Friday, January 2, Jerry is suffering from a broken neck and paralysis.

Because we believe firmly in a God that heals, we are joining together to fervantly pray for the complete physical restoration of Jerry. We know that God is not surprised by this accident, and we know all things come together for His good, and we will join together in looking for God's blessings in and throughout this circumstance.

Right now, at 7pm on Saturday night, as Jerry is in surgery, please join us in praying for the following requests, given to us by his Dad, Dennis:

1. Pray that Jerry would continue to breathe on his own, especially as he comes out of surgery later tonight. Pray that each broken bone would be perfectly mended.

2. Pray that the doctors and nurses would be on the top of their game for this 8 hour marathon of repairs to Jerry's broken neck.

3. Pray for Dennis, Katie, and their three other kids--Josh, Janae and Jessie--pray that they would find strength and courage in surprising places.

As we receive them, updates will be posted to this blog. If you are reading, please post a comment of encouragement for the family to receive. Even just a simple note indicating that you are praying for them will mean so much. The MacCallister family is surviving on the prayers and support of those around them right now, and are stunned by love they are receiving, even from people they do not know.

Thanks for being a part of Following Jerry. For those new to "commenting", just click on the word "comment" below.....

I will begin praying right away. My own son is an ROTC freshman. It sounds like Jerry is a fighter. I will pray for a complete recovery. Also, for your family and the trauma you are experiencing. I can't even imagine what you must be going through.

Dennis and Katie we have been praying for you all since we got the news yesterday. You are constantly on our minds. I remember watching Jerry run at a track meet last season and I could see the determination on his face to finish that race. I pray for that same determination as he fights to recover from this accident. May you feel Gods presence with your family. We love you!

praying for Jerry right now as the surgery is
in progress that The Great Physician himself

May the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:7

Jerry and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I will pray for him to be completely healed, and that the entire family has the strength to get through this time. I do not know you, however, I can't even imagine how you must feel. Trust in God...He has his own timing. He is always with us, even when it may not seem like it. He's right next to you holding each one of you right now.

As I read the creation story with Caleb tonight, I'm reminded about how powerful our Creator is. He "knit (Jerry's body) together in his mother's womb" from the very beginning of his life. How intricate and amazing our God is! He is capable and tonight we pray for His blessings upon your family! We love you and are praying with you.

My prayers and the prayers of our church will be with you through this ordeal. Back in the late 80's I fractured my neck playing with the youth in our church. God was faithful to heal and bring me and my family through the experience faithfully. I pray the the peace of God will be your strength through this time and that you will continually find God faithful at every turn. Is 26:3 says that He will keep you in perfect peace as you keep you mind stayed on Him and Paul writed about the peace that surpasses all understanding, I pray that this peace will capture you and hold you close.

I can relate to the fear you feel about the future of your son.
My experience is that Gods glory is revealed when we are broken, so we realize how small we are and how big He is. It can hurt if we have to give up our own plans and need to trust that His plan is better, that is what we learned the past few years especially since our future was revealed during Family Camp.

When Stephanie (now 18) was 4 she was kicked in the head by our donkey. We rushed her to the hospital where she was airlifted to another an hour away. She spent the night in surgery to put the fractured pieces of her skull back together again.

Those days and nights are still fresh in my mind as I hear about Jerry’s broken neck and I weep with you and pray for you.

We lived far from family but I knew many miles away there were prayers being lifted up for Stephanie. It was like life had knocked the wind out of us and others provided a bit of CPR (Christian Proxy Resuscitation) and helped breathe for us. We felt like zombies – little sleep, no interest in eating – physically and emotionally exhausted.

Others’ prayers carried us through the days she spent in the hospital and the worrisome days and years as we watched for signs of lingering affects. Stephanie experienced complete healing and embraces life fully today. She loves God and others (not perfectly, but better than me) and is the bravest person I know.

I pray God gives your family strength and peace and provides amazing miracles for Jerry.

I pray that as you are graced with the love and prayers of God’s family, it becomes evident to everyone you encounter and His grace spills over to them.

God Bless.

Hello, this is Skylar Evans from the track team last year. I heard about Jerry's accident and injuries a few days ago, and was speechless, then felt such a sense of sorrow for the family. This was a guy I had run with on the team for two seasons of track and one season of cross country. We were acquaintances because of the team, and I can not say I was a good friend of Jerry's but I still send my care for his mom, dad, sisters, and himself of course. I hope his recovery is successful as possible. I hope he can live a life that is satisfying. I hope that the family can see how many people really care about him. If there is anything I, or my family can do, you can reach us at (831)-336-9446, or my cell (831)-278-2532. My sympathies and prayers go to all of the MacCallisters.

Sincerely,

We have not stopped thinking about your Jerry and calling his name before the Lord since we first heard about this early yesterday. We now are up to speed after reading the blog site and will continue Praying and Praising God on behalf of all of you!

Many have said, God is not surprised by this. That is very true, only we are surprised. Yet, knowing your family as we do from many years at RCP, we know that God is VERY MUCH at work in that hospital because of all of you. God is using each one of you, even if you don't realize it, to bring him glory! You are all being prayed for so so much, I have received several different prayer chain requests (from people who I would not have known were connected to you and then to me...God is so crazy like that!)so I know that you are being continually bathed in prayer night and day! Jerry and the MacCallister family have been some of my closest friends since the 4th grade. I know that Jerry will fight through this. Phil 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Stay Strong and keep praying with GOD on your side anything can happen. Keep faith and don't gice up hope. Love Justin ROSE

Katie, this one's for you. I haven't been able to shake the need to pray for you-- and I tell everyone who asks how they can pray-- pray for Katie--pray for them all, but especially pray for Katie. It was so good to read your blog, and know that God is faithful in answering those prayers. I was touched by your words from Jeremiah-- the first thing that came to me when I heard about Jerry's accident, was the verse from Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." I thought, how can I share this with them when all looks so bleak? But God's plans and purposes are higher than ours, and He is in FULL CONTROL of this. SO GLAD TO HEAR YOU ARE EATING. I have a song God gave me for you too, Katie. I'll bring it to you. Love, Sharon

We just received word through the Embry-Riddle Daytona Chapel email prayer line concerning Jerry's accident. Please know that your family will remain in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you for the Blog spot so that we may keep up with Jerry's progress and share in all the wonderful prayers that are being lifted up for your family. Also know that there are many, many ERAU faculty, staff, students and administrators who are part of the Daytona chapel prayer line and will be lifting you all up as well.

Jerry, get better buddy! ERAU needs you. ROTC needs you. Aviation needs you!

The news of Jeremiah has reached the ERAU prayer group today today. We are all praying hard for him and his recovery. My faith calendar for this date reads: "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23." May God keep you in his loving hands today and always.

I wish I could be there in person to say this, but I was completely shocked and saddened when I heard about Jerry's accident. I'm wishing you all the best and comfort during these hard times. Know that Jerry and all of you are in my prayers. I believe everything happens for a reason, and God would not give Jerry more than he could handle, He's gonna pull through this!! Stay Strong.

All my Love and Prayers,

Dennis, Katie, and kids,

Our hearts go out to you. We know a little of what it is like watching your son in a hospital bed and not being able to help him from when Nick was so sick as a freshman. Your task is much harder. Knowing your family we know that you have the strength to get through and that the strength you have given Jerry all his life will help him get through. You are in our hearts and all our love goes out to you. Do not hesitate to call on us for help now or in the future. It would be a blessing not a burden.

Love, John and Mariana

Hi Katie, Dennis and Jerry: I just wanted you all to know that i have insomnia, and never sleep much at night, so when i lay awake for hours, and i think of things i have to do, problems, etc. and then i think about jerry and i say a prayer for him that he is sleeping soundly, and his body is healing. i still remember the day in pre school, that his block tower fell when i was trying to keep it up and he was so upset with me. and when he went running off into the woods, when i was trying to watch him, with the pre school, and he wouldn't come back, i can see why you had him on a leash. there was a time when i had a wrist leash for daniel, that was the only way i could keep under control. anyway, i have a lot of memories of jerry, even though he and cody werent everyday friends, they still had a connection from a young age, and we all think about you everyday. we will always be greatful for the time when the tree fell through our house and you guys helped us get a cabin at RCP so that we could have a place to spend christmas together. it was warm and we redecorated our tree there and put up christmas lights on the stairs . it was so nice. we will never forget that, and anything we can do to help you all out, please let us know. we love you guys and we love jerry, and cant wait for the miracle. take care, love rick, patty, astra, daniel and cody freedman.

I heard about Jerry in church yesterday. I have added Jerry and his family, friends and medical staff to my prayers. We all need to remember that by His blood, Jesus gave us full access to the Father, and that the Father answers our prayers just as if Jesus had prayed. Jesus is our "fulfillment of all points of God's law", that opens all favor and blessing to us.

But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 (ESV).

The Hebrew is "raphah" and is a verb. "...we are(being) healed (at this moment)". Present tense!

God is truly steadfast love, and come what may, He gets us through to VICTORY.

Stand on THAT, Jerry! And all that love and support you, as well!

Blessings!

HI Jerry and Family,

This is Lynette and Jesse Pullin. We have your wrist band that you gave us from the hospital. So we decided to check in with you. How are you doing? I see from your pictures you have a van now. We got one also. It has worked out so well with getting Jesse back and forth to PT and OT. Jesse is doing pretty well. Moving his right arm more and more. Left arm is starting to move also along with finger movment. He is getting stronger with his upper body. Now that we have the van Jesse is getting out alot. We think of you often hoping all is going well with you and your family. We also have a webside call caringbridge.com if you want to go and say hi. You have to look up by putting in Jessecraigpullin. We would love to hear from you.

I know it has been over two years since this accident, but I am just learning of it. I went to daycare with a woman named Kay, and she spoke of you after the accident occured, but I never learned what happened. Knowing now, I send my hopes and prayers to you and your family that you heal well and that all turns out well. I am praying for you, and I wish the best of luck to you and your loved ones.

With love,
