A Much Better Day - Feb 17

Yesterday was difficult, I began to feel a sense of panic over finding a van. I spent a lot of time yesterday looking online and came up empty. We feel it's so important to not loose any time in Jerry's rehab and yet we feel so immobile. We have no way of transporting him in the wheel chair he has without a lift and we don't have a manual chair that can be loaded in the Suburban. Everyday without a van is a day lost in rehab.

God is good and reminds us where there's a will there's a way. We loaded Jerry in the Hoyer Lift, which is kinda like a Cherry Picker. Josh held the huge beach umbrella over Dennis, Jerry and I so we didn't get to wet while loading Jerry in the car with the Hoyer. The first stop on the trip was Horsnyder's to rent a manual wheel chair, what a relief. At least with a manual chair we can now leave the house if we need to, car transfers are really difficult and not ideal for long term but it's doable in a pinch.

We felt like we had it all under control to go for a ride, we packed are bag of tricks and thought we were prepared. We forgot about the nausea, Jerry has had very little nausea if any and we forgot to take it into account. Now we know, always take nausea medication and a barf bucket on a road trip, live and learn. Other than that oversight we did good, everything else went smooth. Amazingly enough we were able to get Jerry loaded in the car around noon, that's record timing on our part to get through the morning routine. Jerry needed some slippers because he can't wear shoes right now, he had a specific kind of slipper he wanted so we went to the mall to hunt them down. Jerry was not feeling up to getting out of the car so he and Dennis waited in the car while I hit 8 stores, before I found the right ones. I bought the slippers came out to the car and tried them on him and then had to take them back for a smaller size. Things are a little more complicated. After leaving the mall we drove to Watsonville to check out a few vans, no luck they were to small.

Next on the trip itinerary we went to Dominican Rehab Center to check out their facility, Jerry still did not feel up to getting out of the car so I waited in the car with Jerry while Dennis went in and checked it out. Dennis came back then I went and checked it out, I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, to soon to form an opinion.

Jerry started to feel better and wanted to go visit Robin and the nurses at Valley Medical Center. Robin is being discharged from the hospital tomorrow so we decided to go for a visit. After arriving at VMC we found out that Robin got a day pass to go to the Sharks game. Robin is Canadian and the Sharks are playing his team from Canada, lucky him. Every night Jerry says that he misses his nurses and therapists so it was very nice for him to get to see some of his favorites, Maria, Tess, Jose, Kathy, Heather, Percy.

It was so nice to get out of the house today. Getting the manual wheelchair was a huge sense of relief. I know we have to be patient and God will provide for us, the right van will come along at the right price, waiting is the hard part. Thank you all for continued prayer, thank you for posting comments of encouragement it really means a lot to us.

Good night,
Katie

Keep fighting Jerry. I'm hoping that soon you can sell your wheelchair and buy a bike!

Looks like some sunshine today! Good thing, sounds like a roll around the camp is in order. Ten minutes (at least) of sun each day
is good for the body, and spirit.

Continued prayers for the perfect van, good days, strength, healing, return of Pedro.
and...Dear God please keep the MacCallisters and friends healthy and free of this icky cold/flu that is currently moving through our community.

Holy Toledo, you guys covered some ground, yesterday! Too bad you missed Robin and I'm sure he was bummed to have missed you and stoked to see his team play.

Live and learn is a good motto. Things are going to take a little more time, in the beginning. Be gentle with yourselves. It may be messy for a while, but, like parenting or marriage there's no one size fits all because we are so preciously and uniquely made and end up reinventing the wheel for ourselves - silly I know.

Was out at the Farm Bakery and thought of getting Mary and eclair to bring you Jer. There's are better than the one she brought you from Gayle's. She's threatening to go see you, so be prepared - a shower curtain may be in order. I've been jonesing to get out and cut back the plants in the front of the yard and am hoping to do that today - probably still too wet, but it beats having them melt into the ground and then trying to trim them.

With the respite in the weather, may the sun shine on you and may our Father's love envelope you. His plan, his time, his love, his faithfulness are all at hand. Father we pray for patience, understanding, and humor through this healing. Help us to listen and hear your plan through the needs of the MacCallisters. May we rise to the occasion when we are called and may our hearts be open to you.

See you soonly,

Trish

It's early afternoon and I just wanted to send some positive thoughts your way.
Jerry,
I'm so glad you were able to visit with all your nurses yesterday. I bet they all missed you and your folks too.
Jerry, I pray that God gives you strength, and lots of it. So you will want to get out and about and into a new rehab quickly. I also pray for the nausea to subside. That you can see the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Katie and Dennis,
I pray you will also find the strength to get the van, get into the rehab and get a routine that suits all of you. That the wheelchair issue gets resolved and everyone gets up earlier to start the day.
Lord hear my prayer. Amen.
Thanks J,J and J for being there for your bro. You guys are the best!

Almost forgot,
My sister works at the Animal Shelter in Santa Cruz. They have lots of wonderful animals looking for someone to curl up on.
It's on the corner of 7th Ave and Rodriguez St. Come on down and she'll give you a tour.

I remember when our cat was missing for 1 1/2 months. The animal shelter here has volunteers who get information on all cats and contact people if their cat is found one way or another. Maybe you can talk to the animal shelter closest to you to report Pedro and they can contact you if there is any news. You may have already done this but I thought I'd write about it just in case you are not aware. Another suggestion is to post his picture with your phone number around the area, if you feel comfortable with that. I've done that as well when our dog took off and it was successful. I have also noticed that some veterinarians have boards to post lost animals. You might try checking with them as well and post a picture with your number, etc. Like I said you may have already done these things but just wanted to make sure.

Hi guys,
I'm missing your nightly comments. Hope this means you are on vacation to the Bahamas or just driving soemwhere in your new van.
Just a little message to tell you how much we love you Jerry.
Lord, help keep that beautiful chin of Jerry's up and keep his spirit lighthearted. Keep Dennis and Katie safe and give them strength to get through another day.
Hope you are enjoying some sunshine on your shoulders today.
